blog beginnings

I thought I would kick off this blog by paying homage to some of my favorite design-related web sites. Here they are, in no particular order, with details about why they rock!

Apartment Therapy

NYC will always be at the heart of design. Anything and everything begins and ends there. It follows that lots of folks want to live there, and end up paying big prices for small spaces. This site follows trends in modern design and offers great advice for those living in tight quarters.

HGTV.com

This site will not only allow you to contact Candice Olsen (with no guarantees that she’ll email you back, of course), but it also offers TONS of resources for the do-it-yourselfer. Lots and lots of free information, and forums to trade ideas with other viewers and get answers from them.

Dexigner.com

This website is a massive directory of all things design. This includes interior design, product design, architecture, you name it.

informe design research

For the professionals among you, this site is invaluable. When working on a particular design for a client, you run across a conflict of ideas regarding green design. Just go to this website, and you’ll find research papers on so many topics, including green design, it’ll make your head spin!

ASID

This is THE organization to belong to if you’re an interior designer. They also have an “Industry Partner” membership level for contractors and crafters that sell their goods and services through designers. Membership of any kind helps keep you in the know about conferences, trends, and professional services (like group rates on health insurance for those of you who are self-employed). Not to mention it’s just good PR to have those four little letters after your name!
